Grounding Systems

class of engineers learning the ropes of Grounding Systems

This course is designed for engineers and technical staff. The purpose of the grounding system is to provide a sufficiently low-impedance path to ground during normal or fault conditions to permit reliable operation of the circuit protective devices and to maintain step and touch potentials within safe acceptable limits. Well-designed grounding system ensures safety and protects against excessive step and touch potentials for workers performing tasks around transmission or distribution system. In this course attendees will cover:

  • Introduction to the Grounding System
  • Electrical Characteristics of Soil
  • Fault Current Analysis
  • Ground Electrode Resistance
  • Grounding System Components
  • Grounding System Maintenance and Testing
  • Common Grounding System Deficiencies
  • Safe Work Practices
  • Case Studies
